What does it consist of? This technique involves personalising the lesson content by actively involving students in what is being taught. By linking learning to their interests, experiences and immediate environment, motivation and attention increase. Instead of relying only on textbook examples, the teacher uses real student information, introducing personal questions and examples with pronouns such as I, you, he / she. This helps students remember and understand the language more effectively.
What do we achieve with this technique? – increasing student motivation and engagement – promoting deeper and longer-lasting understanding – bringing language closer to real-life use – supporting meaningful communicative practice
Example: To practise food vocabulary, the teacher can ask about students’ favourite food, what food they dislike or what a classmate has eaten. This allows vocabulary to be practised in a personal and realistic context.
